Sorry, I Can’t. I’m Busy Resting: Your DIY Menu for a Weekend Wellness Reset

With busy schedules, tight budgets, and the constant pull of everyday responsibilities, it can feel impossible to step away for a full weekend retreat. But the truth is, you don’t have to travel far—or spend a lot of money—to give yourself the gift of rest and renewal.

Fall, with its shorter days, cooler air, and colorful shift in nature, is the ideal time to slow down and turn inward. Just as the trees release their leaves, we, too, can let go of what no longer serves us. A mini at-home retreat is a simple, meaningful way to ground yourself, reset your energy, and reconnect with what matters most. All it takes is a little intention and a cozy space to make the season feel restorative.

Your 🍁 Autumn Wellness Menu

✨ Think of this like a seasonal wellness café: pick 1–2 ideas from each section to create your own fall retreat day.

🌅 Morning Starters (Grounding & Awakening)

  • Light & Stretch → Light a candle, stretch your arms overhead, and welcome the day.
  • Seasonal Sip → Make a warm mug of chai, spiced cider, or golden milk.
  • Nature Noticing → Step outside, breathe the crisp air, and collect a leaf, acorn, or pinecone as a token of the season. Notice the animals, the weather, or any other movement in your surroundings. You may wish to jot down a poem or a couple lines about what stands out to you. Or you may wish to ask nature what message it has for you today.
  • Gratitude Breath → With each inhale, name something you’re grateful for; with each exhale, release what feels heavy.
  • Mindful Movement → Bundle up and head outside for a hike among falling leaves. Notice the colors, sounds, and crisp air. If you can’t get outside, try a 20-minute yoga video to awaken your body.
  • Nourishing Breakfast Ritual → Make a cozy seasonal breakfast—pumpkin spice oatmeal, apple-cinnamon smoothie, or eggs with roasted root veggies. Brew a warm mug of ginger tea. Eat slowly, without distractions.

☀️ Midday Nourishers (Releasing & Creativity)

  • Leaf Letting-Go → Write what you want to release on a fallen leaf and let it blow away in the wind.
  • Kitchen Alchemy → Bake pumpkin bread, apple crisp, or a pot of soup with intention, stirring in wishes for nourishment and warmth.
  • Creative Play → Paint, collage with autumn colors, or arrange seasonal flowers for no other reason than joy.

  • Reflection & Intention Setting→ Try some journaling:
    • What am I ready to release this season?
    • What do I want to welcome in before the year ends?
    • How can I create more light and joy as the days get shorter?
  • Cozy Rest Time → Curl up with a book (see the list below), listen to calming music, or take a nap. This is guilt-free downtime—just like a real retreat.
  • Connection Break → Call a friend, write a letter, or invite someone to join you virtually. Part of wellness is nourishing relationships.
  • Nourishing Meal → Cook or order a cozy meal—think butternut squash risotto, lentil stew, or baked salmon with root veggies. Seasonal produce like squash, kale, or carrots adds both nutrients and flavor. Incorporate warming spices like turmeric or rosemary to soothe digestion and relax your body. Eat mindfully, savoring the flavors of fall.

  • Burn + Release → Write fears, regrets, or stressors on small slips of paper and burn them in a fireplace or firepit.
  • Seasonal Soak → Take a bath with rosemary, eucalyptus, or dried orange slices for a fall-scented cleanse. Bring a book to read or journal about your day.
  • Tea Ceremony and Candle Gazing → Brew chamomile or lavender tea, sip slowly, and take it in with all of your senses. Quietly gaze at a candle, watching the flame as thoughts rise and fall.
  • Moon Moments → Step outside at night, let the moonlight fall on your face, and feel yourself part of something larger.
  • Simple Sleep Ritual → Slip into soft pajamas, warm socks, and freshly cleaned sheets. Breathe deeply and imagine tucking yourself into the quiet rhythm of the season. Then relax your body with a simple Body Scan where you imagine releasing tension from each part of your body, one by one.
