Have you ever received a message from the beyond? Maybe it was a nudge from a passed loved one or a whisper from an angel. This year, for my birthday, mine arrived via the U.S. Postal Service.
The front of the card read: “May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.” It was exactly what I needed to hear, but to understand why, I have to rewind a bit.
The Mystery Man in Green
Back in 2018, while I was training as a Healing Touch Practitioner, a fellow healer stopped during our session. She told me she saw a group of spiritual beings around me, specifically a man wearing green and holding a staff. My mind immediately went to St. Patrick, but it didn’t quite click. I felt deep down it should be a saint associated with healing, but the identity stayed a mystery for almost seven years.
Fast-forward to 2 years ago. I opened my mail to find a card from St. Jude’s Hospital. There he was: a man dressed in green, holding a staff, and wearing a medallion of Jesus’ face—a symbol of healing. My heart leapt. The mystery was solved. It was St. Jude all along.
The Sign I Didn’t Know I Needed
Since that realization, St. Jude has been popping up everywhere—social media feeds, mail slots, even signs on the highway—always appearing right when I need a reminder that all things are possible. He has become a quiet anchor for me, reminding me to keep hope alive not just for myself, but for the students I work with and the friends navigating everything from depression to Lupus. I often feel him along side me as I give healing sessions to patients at the hospital.
On my birthday, his timing was perfect. I had recently been questioning my path, even considering transferring to a different school. I was feeling incapable and like every decision I made was a mistake. But that card offered clear guidance: It was not only the reminder that I exist on this earth during this particular time for a reason, but I am supposed to be in Charlotte, in this exact school, right now. And I am perfectly equipped to be here.
And More…The Antidote for My Enneagram 7 FOMO
It didn’t end there. Inside the card were three prayers that felt like a direct response to my current life. They weren’t just random verses; they addressed the very things I have been working through:
- An Open Heart: For the last five years, I’ve been praying to return to a sense of innocence and zest for living—to be open to it all and stop protecting myself from grief and pain.
- Confidence in Decision-Making: An area I have struggled with my entire life. This prayer is the reminder that God is with me in these decisions and I am capable of making the best decision in each moment with what I am given. (Trust and let go instead of agonizing.)
- Contentment and Gratitude: This was accompanied by a quote from my other guide, St. Thérèse (The Little Flower): “May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.”
As an Enneagram 7, these all hit home. My soul is always chasing freedom, joy, and the next big thing, which often leads to a heavy dose of FOMO and at the same time anxiety over making the “wrong” choice. But I’ve learned that the antidote to “coveting” the next experience is radical contentment. It’s the realization that I am already a beloved child of God, exactly as I am. And here is where my true freedom lies–in the contentment of delighting in and loving where I am.
The Four Reminders I’m Holding Onto
Thank you, St. Jude, for the birthday encouragement and for reminding me that I don’t have to go it alone.
As for you, as you go through your week, I hope you can carry these same four markers in your heart: Confidence, Contentment, Gratitude, and Open-heartedness. And above all, TRUST that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
