Re-imagine the perfect job
Dream of the perfect partnership
Envision a place that meets everyone’s needs
Whatever area feels stuck in your life is actually the biggest place of opportunity. This is the place to dream. What better way to confront your fears then by focusing on the desire behind it. If I fear roaches in my house, the desire is to have a clean, safe place to live. So I put my energy there, on imagining my dream home. If the fear is being trapped in a dead-end job, then I imagine an abundance of opportunity. Create a vision in whatever way you like… a vision board, journal exercise, meditation, or even just talking with a friend. The point is to look beyond and believe that it is possible.
Let me give you an example. Last year, I examined the stuck areas of my life. I noticed that my physical health was declining. I lacked energy, had gained weight, and had trouble sleeping. The fear was that I would miss out on things in life because of my deteriorating health. Either I wouldn’t have the strength and energy to keep up with loved ones and friends or I would soon develop a disease or even worse still a heart-attack! The desire behind that fear was to live a full and active life. Since I am a writer, the journaling exercise of scripting works well for me to envision a new life.
I wrote about my life as if it were 5 years in the future. I imagined myself hiking, biking, and kayaking in various groups in the community. I had many friends and it was easy to keep up with them. I was able to do yoga moves like crow pose that required strong arms and abs. I went out dancing and met new people as I laughed and spun in circles. My athletic nieces and nephews raced with me as we played in the backyard and I would lift the little ones to spin around. I could maintain my house, moving heavy furniture easily. I would stay up late talking with friends, but sleep so soundly that I woke up refreshed early each morning. I never had to say no to a concert or party because I was too tired. Best of all was that it was super easy! I didn’t have to force myself to eat things I didn’t like or do repetitive exercises that I hated.
Only 1 year after writing my vision, I am seeing the results. I feel more energetic and am engaged in an active lifestyle. I am in hiking and biking groups. I do country line dancing once a week and yoga a few times a week. I have made new friends and am finally keeping up with some of the more athletic ones. I stay up late going to concerts and other events, but I sleep better, and no longer feel exhausted. I still have a ways to go and a few pounds to lose (or to convert to muscle) but it is easy. I am no longer afraid of disease and death. My focus is on the living of life fully… every… single… day.
