After practicing the art of Spiritual Direction for almost 10 years, I have found one prayer app that has helped many of the spiritual seekers who have come to me. In fact, many are still using it to this very day. It is the Pray As You Go App, and here’s what people love about it.
It’s just the right amount of time

The daily podcast takes about 10 minutes, which anyone can find in their day. If you have more time, you can even play it twice or choose one of their longer meditations offered on the app.
You can do it anywhere
Since it is on your phone, you can play it on your daily commute, while walking your dog, as you clean your house, or while in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. (Even if you don’t have headphones, you can read the scripted text.)
It’s new everyday

They offer a daily podcast which begins with a new song and reflection each day. (Songs are of all varieties and come from all over the world.)
It combines guidance and reflection
Not only do they offer reflective questions, but they read through the same passage twice, allowing you to practice a guided form of Lectio Divina. The podcast bounces back and forth between listening and reflecting, listening and responding. The balance allows you to have time for God to speak through your imagination, thoughts, and feelings, but not to get too off track and distracted.
It offers variety

If the daily prayer of the day is not cutting it for you, the app offers a wealth of other resources. Some prayer tools include: Guided Walking Meditations, Breathing Exercises, Examen for all different ages, and Awareness Exercises for mental health. There is a whole section on retreats and series so that you can pray through different seasons and topics in your life.
