I burnt my eggs and toast,
realized milk was sour after I already poured it in my coffee,
and then I got a flat tire in my new rental car on the way to work.
I arrived at school just in time for the first bell, but the principal pulls me to help cover a class for a teacher running late.
Now I get to my first group late, and that teacher hasn’t prepared the materials they need for that day, so we have to wing it.
But this morning just served as a testament for how far I’ve come in mindset. Here was a chance to practice the stories that I was telling myself.
| Instead of…. | I could say… |
| Pay attention and stop making mistakes! | This would be a funny sitcom! Maybe I can use it in my writing. |
| I always have car issues. | Someone always helps me when I am in need. |
| Why do I have to pick up the pieces for coworkers? | I am capable and responsible. People trust me. I get the opportunity to help others today. |
As I changed these stories I told myself, I was not only focusing on the positive, but I was rewiring my brain and pattern of thinking. I was grateful that I had food to eat, a car to drive, and a job to go to. I felt incredibly lucky that a man pulled over to help me with my tire and I STILL made it to work in time. My ability to “wing it” at work was actually fun to be in the flow, allowing me to be a little more spontaneous. All this made me feel more ALIVE and in the present moment this morning!
Whatever kind of morning you are having, I hope that your eggs land sunny-side up and you experience the joy of being alive today!
