3 Ways To Decorate Your Soul

It’s funny the way ideas come to you….I got one the other day from listening to a friend talk about her Christmas Tree. Most people have taken down their Christmas trees by now, but not my friend. She wasn’t ready to take it down yet. She said it was something about the lights. So she printed off New Year thoughts to hang as ornaments on the tree for the month of January. Each day she takes one of the thoughts down to contemplate for the day. She decided in February she will decorate it with valentines for others. This will remind her of all of the people who she loves. And each month with have a new theme.

This inspired the idea of decorating your soul, celebrating through each season and theme. It’s all about keeping the lights turned on for everyone to see. Now you might be asking, “How can I decorate my soul?” Below are a couple of ideas, but consider them only the flint used to ignite your own creativity.

3 Ways to Decorate Your Soul

  1. Choose the ornaments. The ornaments could be the thoughts you want to fill yourself with, like my friend did with her January tree. Or perhaps they could be the memories that you want to savor and look at over and over again. For me, I choose a combination of people I love, songs that make me feel good, and treasured experiences.

2. Accentuate the unique, wild parts. Just as each Christmas tree is unique because of the type and age it is, where it was grown, and the conditions that surrounded it, you too are completely unique. Get in touch with your innate wildness, your freest self. What is inside of you that has been longing to be expressed? Don’t be afraid to show it…now is the time!

3. Drape yourself. A christmas tree may have garland, tinsel, or fake snow draped over it. This tends to make it shimmer and appear fuller. Consider what you could drape yourself in to be fuller, to be more you. Kids often make popcorn garland. Maybe your garland could be made of what you feed your soul with…good books, pretty places, prayers and blessings, or quiet time. Or maybe you would rather sparkle and catch people’s eyes. Then you may choose to drape yourself in your gifts and talents and spend time doing the things you love and are good at…. being in your element. Your exuberance for living will surely make you sparkle!
